In one of the more legendary behind-closed-doors moments of Mafia history, Gambino boss John Gotti informed Genovese boss Vincent “Chin” Gigante during a secret sit-down in a Greenwich Village apartment that his son, John Jr., was about to be “made.” Gotti, ever the showman, expected congratulations. Instead, Chin — known for his dry wit and old-school disdain for nepotism — paused, then delivered a brutal one-liner: “Jeez… I’m sorry to hear that.” It was a subtle but scathing reminder that in the mob, not all legacies are worth celebrating.
