In 1973, the Chicago Tribune ran a series of articles by reporter Robert Wiedrich titled “Portrait of a Hitman.” This well-known mob reporter obtained a series of interviews with Charles “Chuckie” Crimaldi in a series of secret locations. Crimaldi alleges that the Outfit owned a man he knew as Dr. Bruni and this doctor would admit wanted men into Northlake Community Hospital and allow them to hide from the authorities. Crimaldi said the Outfit might take over a whole ward on a weekend and run big Gin Rummy tournaments.

I originally found out about Northlake Community Hospital from the Gangland Wire podcast by Gary Jenkins, you can listen to that episode here: https://ganglandwire.com/charles-crimaldi-part-1-northlake-hospital/
