While Santo Trafficante Jr. was traveling abroad, he would often communicate with Jimmy Longo, an old bodyguard of his who’s main job now was to show up at local haunts and eat, for which he was paid a nice salary to do so. Ever prickly, Longo made no effort to hide his reluctance to give information. FBI agents kept hammering on him to give up any information of substance, but Longo would sit there complaining about his various ailments that kept him from attending the dog races at the tracks, among other things.
This strip was inspired by an excerpt from true crime author Scott Dietche’s book, The Silent Don: The Criminal Underworld of Santo Trafficante Jr.
The life and ruthless times of one of America’s most powerful and feared mob bosses. With a criminal empire that stretched from the Gulf Coast throughout the Caribbean, Trafficante was linked to drug trafficking, plots to kill Fidel Castro, and the assassination of JFK.
