In 1984, Louis “Louie Ha Ha” Attanasio, a capo in the Bonanno crime family, with the help of family captain Peter “Rabbit” Calabrese, shot Cesar Bonventre, a fellow mobster, in the back of the head. After the murder, they dismembered Bonventre’s body and concealed the remains in steel drums at a New Jersey glue factory. Facing up to 20 years in prison, Attanasio and Calabrese struck a deal, agreeing to serve 15-year sentences. Their lawyer cited the plea deal as a chance for Attanasio to spend time with his family. This conviction adds to Attanasio’s prior imprisonment alongside his brother and Calabrese for Bonventre’s murder, a crime ordered by mob boss Joseph Massino. Attanasio supposedly earned his nickname because he laughed every time he killed somebody.
