One day, a rookie beat cop’s partner, an old-timer on the force, called in sick and asked him to come by his house before work. When the rookie arrived, he was handed a list of names and addresses. “Just tell ’em Ron sent you.” The rookie did as instructed and at each stop was handed a sealed envelope, which he dutifully delivered to his partner. He knew what was up, but also knew to keep his eyes open and mouth shut.
