Al Capone’s first job in Chicago was running a gambling house called the Four Deuces for Johnny ‘The Fox’ Torrio. During Prohibition, Torrio and Capone paid steady bribes to city politicians and to the police to look the other way and not interfere with their illegal alcohol trade. Torrio was a very orderly businessman who understood that the business would work smoothest if there was the least possible interference.
