Benedetto Angelo Palmeri, born into a prosperous family in Sicily, immigrates to the United States where he starts out as a dock laborer in New York City. He later moves to Buffalo, where he establishes a tavern and engages in gambling operations, forming a close partnership with local Mafia boss Giuseppe DiCarlo. Palmeri’s violent tendencies earn him the nickname “Buffalo Bill” and lead to legal troubles, but he continues to rise in the criminal underworld. Despite personal tragedies and health issues, Palmeri remains influential in Buffalo’s Italian community until his death.
